The Symposium

The Symposium of International Languages and Knowledge has set out to stimulate inquiry, invite dialogue and build a body of knowledge on language learning. The symposium aims to bring impact in the fields of languages, education and knowledge.

Objective

Within the themes of SILK 2021, the conference will:

  • bring together academics, researchers, professionals and students, whose interests are in languages, education pedagogy and creativity;

  • promote the value of knowledge sharing and networking among presenters and participants;

  • strengthen academic cooperation and collaboration among the ASEAN countries, particularly within the three university parties;

  • raise public awareness in the learning of languages and knowledge in general

Keynote Speaker

Prof. Dr. Harshita Aini Haroon

Harshita Aini Haroon holds a B.Ed (Hons) TESOL from West Sussex Institute of Higher Education, UK. She obtained her MA Linguistics and Information Processing, and her PhD from the University of Leeds in 2000. She is a Professor at the Centre for Liberal Sciences, Faculty of Applied and Human Sciences at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). Harshita is also currently the university’s Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Strategy and Quality Management (SQM) where her responsibilities include the management of the university’s strategic plan, institutional quality assurance, accreditation and risk management. Prior to joining the university in 2013, Harshita was Programme Head, and then Director at the Programme Management Office of Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education, monitoring projects run by public universities under the then National Higher Education Strategic Plan. Harshita’s interests include corpus linguistics, language use, language teaching and learning, and quality in higher education. Harshita has several postgraduate students under her wings researching topics in linguistics and language learning. Currently she is working on addressing and integrating dimensions of sustainability within the university at various levels of implementation.
